How can I tell if I have 32- or 64-bit Windows on my PC or Laptop?

QUESTION: How can I tell if I have 32- or 64-bit Windows on my PC or Laptop?

ANSWER: Right click on the Computer or or This PC icon on the desktop, then click Properties

Under the System or System Type:

  1. If you see "32" or if there is bit number, then you are using a 32-bit operating system.
  2. If you see "64" then you are using a 64-bit operating system.

Can't see a Computer or This PC icon?

  1. Right-click on the desktop, then click Personalize.
  2. In the Personalization window, click Change desktop icons.
  3. In the Desktop Icon Settings dialog box, select the Computer check box.
  4. Click OK. The Computer or This PC icon appears on the desktop.
