SYMPTOM
WTC shows empty directory listing when using DFS and Access Based Enumeration
CAUSE
Access Based Enumeration is a feature with the Share option that allows Windows to determine what a user has access to within that share, based on NTFS permissions. From our analysis it was discovered that when this setting is enabled for a Share that is hosted by a DFS Namespace, there will be an inconsistent listing based on the amount of folder objects within. In some cases, the directory listing will return no objects on the first request, but upon refresh will be able to get the correct listing. The DFS will display issues when attempting to open the Site Root, as shown here:
RESOLUTION/WORKAROUND
It is recommended that you disable access-based enumeration and assign the EFT user account a home folder that hosts the folder to which they need access. Due to the inconsistent listing present when directories get larger, we cannot guarantee proper behavior of the WTC interface.
