Occasionally, organizations lock down their computers so that users cannot access the Internet. While preventing users from accessing the Internet can be good for security, it also prevents the operating system and associated software from receiving important updates, especially those that patch security holes. A system administrator can periodically connect to the computer outside of regular business hours, connect to the Internet, and download and install software updates, while still preventing the end user from accessing the Internet.
