Registration key returned by server is invalid

THE INFORMATION IN THIS ARTICLE APPLIES TO:

• CuteFTP 4.2 (When running on Windows Vista)

SYMPTOMS

When attempting to activate or register CuteFTP 4.2, the following error message is encountered:

Registration key returned by server is invalid.

CAUSE

The displayed error message is erroneous. The registration key returned by the GlobalSCAPE activation server is valid however it cannot be merged into the registry due to insufficient privileges.

RESOLUTION

For CuteFTP 4.2: You must start the program by right-clicking on the shortcut and clicking Run as administrator. After activation and registration is completed you can start the program normally when logged on to Windows using a standard user account.
