QUESTION

How can I configure the CuteFTP Pro Transfer Engine so that it will run my scripts or scheduled jobs at night when nobody is logged on to the computer?

ANSWER

There are two options available to you for running the CuteFTP Pro Transfer Engine (TE) without having a user present. The first option runs as a process and the second unsupported option will run as a service. Configuration for either one requires advanced understanding of Windows, the registry and DCOM configuration so is not recommended for most users.

  1. You can execute scripts while the system is not logged in if you properly configure Windows DCOM configuration for the TE. For instructions, please see the Transfer Engine (SDK) section of the CuteFTP Pro help file.
  2. If CuteFTP Pro is running on Windows 2003 Server, you may be able to configure it such that CuteFTP Pro runs as a service. Doing so will enable scheduled jobs (such as folder synchronization) to be completed even without a user logging into that computer. For instructions, browse to Knowledge Base Article 10264.
