QUESTION

Does EFT Server scale horizontally? How does EFT Server run in a cluster? Will it run "active active"?

ANSWER

Active/Active load balancing (a topology in which all participant devices share some of the traffic load) is the same as horizontal scaling and Web farms - all different ways to handle more throughput.

The advanced software architecture in EFT is so vertically scalable that our test lab uses modest hardware for testing. EFT can easily handle 2Gbps of continuous traffic—substantially more than our customers typically need.

In addition, many EFT customers use load balancers, and clustering and/or load balancing is easily achieved by standard mechanisms of hooking up the boxes to a SAN. The only thing to be careful of are "folder monitor" and "timer" rules, which must be handled on a per-node basis to avoid duplication of event reaction. This is made easier in EFT v5 and later by using the "if Node Name" Server Condition.
