SYMPTOM

When starting CuteFTP, the following error is encountered:

Cannot Load advert.dll

or

Cannot Initialize Advertising System

RESOLUTION

To repair the problem, re-install CuteFTP. If you are currently using CuteFTP version 3.0, 3.5 or 4.0 then download and install the free upgrade to CuteFTP 4.2 from this page:

CAUSE

Some older versions of CuteFTP used advertising banners in the evaluation versions.  One or more of the necessary components is no longer present on your system.
