QUESTION

Can I use EFT and Mail Express in a cluster configuration for high availability?

ANSWER

Mail Express v3.3 and later can connect to EFT v6.5 and later. Mail Express communicates to EFT any Mail Express file transfers for use in EFT Event Rules and reporting. Mail Express can automatically synchronize with EFT for the EFT host, port, administrator credentials, Site name, and Event Rule time limit, or you can enter the configuration manually. You can install Mail Express and EFT on the same computer or remotely from each other. If EFT is installed on a separate computer, you must enable remote administration on EFT.

In clustered configurations, it is often preferable to install EFT and Mail Express on separate computers and as different generic services. Because Mail Express will function without EFT, meaning it will simply connect back to EFT and update the settings that are required, having separate services split into two different cluster nodes is the better option.

Each service should have its own:

  • IP resource
  • Logical Unit Number (LUN) resource
  • Remote SQL Server database already in an HA cluster
