  • EFT Server Enterprise version 6.2

DISCUSSION

The process for migrating EFT Server to a new computer running EFT Server should only take about 30 to 45 minutes if everything is done properly.

Prepare:

  1. Ensure that EFT Server 6 is compatible with your server by checking here: http://help.globalscape.com/help/eft6-4/System_Requirements_for_Server.htm
  2. Request and receive a new EFT Server 6 licenses (if you have a Secure FTP Server or EFT Server 4 or 5 serial number) and a new DMZ 3 licenses (if you have a DMZ 1 or 2 serial number) from your account representative.
  3. Download the latest version of EFT Server (and the DMZ Gateway module, if needed) from one of the following locations:
  4. Stop the EFT Server service to ensure all settings are preserved; once the FTP.cfg copy is complete, the service can be restarted.
  5. Create a migration folder on the new computer and add the appropriate application data files:
    • If the EFT Server was installed to the default location, then simply copy the EFT Server folder:
      • Windows 2003: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\GlobalSCAPE\EFT Server
      • Windows 2008: C:\ProgramData\GlobalSCAPE\EFT Server
    • If the EFT Server is installed to another location like “C:\Program Files (x86)\GlobalSCAPE\Secure FTP Server,” copy the following items:
      • FTP.cfg and ftp://ftp.bak/
      • *.aud
      • All PGP keys (*.skr, *.pkr)
      • All SSL certificate files (*.cer, *crt)
      • All SSH key files (*.pvk, *.pub)
      • Any scripts or .bat files
      • Any custom reports
  6. Ensure that the EFT Server site data folders are copied to the new computer (default location is C:\inetpub\EFTRoot) using the same folder structure that exists on the old one (e.g., if it is D:\EFTRoot on the old computer, make certain it is D:\EFTRoot on the new computer).

Migrate:

  1. Use the installer to install EFT Server on the new computer. Before clicking Finish, clear the check box used to start the service.
  2. Add an EFT Server Service Windows account to run the EFT Server Service.
  3. Ensure that the EFT Server Service account has full rights to the application data directory and the site data directory.
  4. Copy the application data files from the migration folder to the correct places:
    • If the EFT Server was installed to the default location on the old computer, then simply copy over the new EFT Server folder:
      • Windows 2003: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\GlobalSCAPE\EFT Server
      • Windows 2008: C:\ProgramData\GlobalSCAPE\EFT Server
    • If the EFT Server was installed to another location on the old computer, such as “C:\Program Files (x86)\GlobalSCAPE\Secure FTP Server,” then copy the following items to these locations:
      • FTP.cfg and FTP.bak
      • *.aud
      • All pgp keys (*.skr, *.pkr)
      • All SSL certificate files (*.cer, *crt)
      • All SSH key files (*.pvk, *.pub)
      • Any scripts or .bat files
      • Any custom reports
  5. Start the EFT Server Enterprise service.
  6. Register EFT Server and all modules using the commands located in the Help Menu.
  7. Skip if this step if the application data files were in the default location, otherwise make these changes in the EFT Server administrative interface:
    • At the server level (Local Host), on the Administration tab, click Configure for the Require SSL for remote administration, and browse to the path to the SSL certificate for administrator connections.
    • For each site, at the site level, on the Connections tab:
      • Set the Listening IP address correctly.
      • Click SFTP Config and browse to the SFTP private key.
      • Click Configure for the SSL Certificate settings and browse to the SSL certificate for FTPS, HTTPS, and AS2 protocol connections.
  8. If you will be using the Secure Ad Hoc Transfer Module or DMZ Gateway Module, use the corresponding installers to install them. After they are installed, register them in the EFT Server administration interface.
  9. Verify that the site is working properly.
