QUESTION

The majority of our file transfers are binary files. Is it possible to disable the ASCII method of transfer on the FTP server side?

ANSWER

The FTP client chooses whether to use binary or ASCII mode for the transfer. EFT supports both modes but cannot force the FTP client to use binary or turn off the support for ASCII mode. You must configure that in the FTP client.

However, you can block access in other ways, such as failed login attempt ban logic, password complexity rules, username blacklisting, IP white/blacklisting, banned file types, max allowed connections from same IP, and various other configurable settings in EFT.

Look for these topics in the EFT help for your version:

  • "Banning Unwanted File Types"
  • "Controlling Access to the Site by IP Address"
  • "Banning an IP Address that Uses an Invalid Account"
